A Step Ahead of Apple’s OS X Lion

One of our favorite companies, Apple, showcased the newest version of Mac OS yesterday at their Worldwide Developer Conference – and they’ve added some new features we love.

The new version of OS X is Lion – and it comes with a lot of new features and improvements.  Our favorites are Auto Save and Versions.  Why??  Because we already support both!

Phil Schiller threw out the common, post-crash line we’ve all muttered to someone (or had muttered to us), “You should’ve saved.”  It’s happened to everyone – but when you’re working on something as involved as a business plan it can be an especially painful experience.  You might have just lost all of the work you put in to reconciling financial assumptions with your business strategy or lost other valuable marketing and sales plans that took a lot of time, effort and coordination to pull together.

The good news for you is we support both Auto Save and Versions already – in fact, we have for a while now.

  • Auto-Save is our standard for saving financial projections and text in your business plan.  As you enter financial figures or type your plan out everything is immediately saved – without the intervention of you pressing the “Save” button after every change.
  • We Auto-Version too!  So, when you write your plan, even as you delete or change text you will never loose past versions.  Just like Lion, in addition to automatic versions we allow manual, named snapshots of a version for easy reference later on.  Also like Lion, we effeciently save the changes by only storing what’s changed (the Delta) between versions instead of the whole version.  Finally, just like with Lion’s Versions, when you’re done and export or send your plan off we only share the current version.  The history and past-versions for each part of your plan are for you and your team exclusively.

These features, coupled with our business planning tools that guide you through writing your plan and helping you if you get stuck are a fantastic combination.  We like to think of it as effeciency and guidance rolled into a single package.

We’re excited to know that new features Apple is currently releasing are already available to all our customers – and anyone else that wants to try us out.  In our small business-planning corner of the software world we’re happy to provide the best solutions available – whether we’re a step ahead of Apple or not.
